World Screen: Has#tag Homicide Deals in North America & the U.K.

FilmRise has acquired the North American rights for BIG Media’s Has#tag Homicide series, and, in a separate deal, UKTV has picked up the series for U&W in the U.K. and Ireland.

Has#tag Homicide explores the intersection of social media and crime, where the virtual world becomes the stage for murder, investigation and justice. The series begins with the first clue, such as a like, post or comment, and then unveils the chain of events that led to a tragedy. Detectives and online sleuths then decode digital footprints to solve the crimes.

The series reveals how the digital age is reshaping the pursuit of truth.

“The impact of social media on our lives and its potential to be exploited by bad actors has become an irrefutable part of modern society,” said Danny Wilk, president and co-founder of BIG Media. “In Has#tag Homicide, we look at how online predators and scammers have preyed on victims by hiding behind the friendly veil of social media, luring the unsuspecting followers and friends into some very dark places. It’s a phenomenon that is relatively new but has become increasingly ubiquitous. Once again, we are happy to be working with FilmRise to represent this series and are equally pleased to have UKTV on board for this soon-to-be global hit series.”

“At FilmRise, we are committed to bringing audiences compelling, thought-provoking true-crime stories that reflect the evolving digital landscape,” commented Jonitha Keymoore, head of content at FilmRise. “Has#tag Homicide is a gripping exploration of how social media intersects with real-life criminal investigations, uncovering the dark side of the online world. We are excited to partner with UKTV and further strengthen our collaboration with BIG Media to bring this powerful series to audiences.”

Melanie Rumani, global head of acquisitions for UKTV and BBC Studios, added, “Has#tag Homicide promises to bring true-crime fans a fascinating double perspective on how social media is impacting both how crimes are perpetrated and investigated in the modern digital world. We’re delighted to be partnering with FilmRise and BIG Media in bringing the series to viewers on U and U&W.”
